Portable Oxygen

Mobility is increased through the use of portable oxygen. Options are either Cylinders or Portable Oxygen Concentrator.

Cylinders are usually fitted with a delivery device either standard regulator or a Conserving device. Cylinders with a continuous flow regulator do not have a long usage life.

The conserving devise is a simple battery-operated device that controls the flow of oxygen from the cylinder to the nasal prongs. They conserve oxygen by delivering a short pulse of oxygen only when the patient breathes in, rather than continuously as with continuous flow regulators. This prolongs the life of the cylinder by 3 to 5 times.

Portable Oxygen Concentrators work in the same way that stationary concentrators work but usually have 3 alternate power sources - 240V, 12V and battery. Units vary in price and ability with many variations of Pulse only and continous delivery units. Most units have a capacity of up to 3lpm per minute at approximaltely 93%.
